Services I provide:
Health Psychology: Psychotherapy focused on coping with health challenges and navigating the medical system, understanding stress, developing relaxation skills and positive habits.
Anxiety Treatment: Physical illness often triggers anxiety and stress. Anxiety about one’s health can take on a life of its own and impact day to day functioning. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness help face the unknowns of illness and stay present in the moment.
Post-Traumatic Stress Treatment: Health challenges are often rooted in traumatic events that either directly caused injury or triggered a chronic stress condition that contributed to a health problem. Sometimes the medical interventions to treat a condition are traumatizing. Somatic Psychology works to unwind stress patterns in the nervous system and reinhabit a sense of autonomy, wellbeing and safety.
Depression Treatment: Chronic illness and depression often go hand in hand. As illness limits life activities it becomes harder to engage in activities that make life meaningful leading to a depressive spiral. The less you can do, the worse you feel and the worse you feel, the less you do. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps to re-engage in meaningful activity and reverse this process.
Caregiver Stress: Caring for a loved one who is ill can trigger anxiety, feeling trapped, anger, guilt, and anticipatory grief. The overwhelming demands of providing care and navigating the medical system can lead to exhaustion and burnout. A health psychologist can help improve self-care, manage stress, identify resources and work through the emotions that arise from being in this role.
End of Life Decision Making: A health psychologist can help you navigate the different choices around medical care at the end of life.
Grief Counseling: Grief is the natural response to the loss of a loved one.
